You’ve probably heard of the strange information that pizza is healthier than cereal. Since breakfast cereals are a staple in kitchens worldwide, there’s pressure to make sure that parents are giving their kids the right food. So what’s the real deal?

For the most part, cereals are not a wholesome source of nutrients because it only provides sugar, for the most part. There are numerous brands of cereals that struggle to provide little more than simple carbohydrates to consumers. Pizzas, on the other hand, provide nutrients from a wider territory. There’s protein, carbohydrates, and fat, and depending on what you put on top of the pizza, you could also be getting vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber.

But does this make cereals evil? If you eat cereals with milk, there is probably not enough variety of nutrients to make your breakfast healthy, unless you are using specialized milk, that’s not milk but a food supplement. According to dietitians, pizzas tend to be more nutritious because of the ingredients used in their preparation.

Can you somehow replicate this with cereals? The answer is yes, if you like the idea of being more creative with your breakfast staple. For one, you can shift to no-sugar and whole-grain brands. And while many brands are poorly milled, at least having some of the whole grain components will do you good. Next, you need to top the cereals with something other than milk. Think of healthy fruits like bilberries, strawberries, blackberries, the works. Banana slices are also excellent because of their potassium content. What we’re doing here is increasing the nutrition value of what you’re eating.
